Crafty Tutorial - Decorative Vase

Friday, October 18, 2013

Hey, Y’all!!

So, my second video went alright. I'm still working on getting the lighting right and I did have to re-record the end part of my video (you’ll notice I’m dressed different at the end, well that’s why) because I forgot to turn the TV off and you can hear it in the background which can be quite distracting, and I couldn’t have that. ;)

For this tutorial I decided to show you all how to create a nice decorative vase from an existing plain ol’, clear glass vase. It’s sort of like a decoupage technique only there aren’t as many layers of varnish or paper. What you’re going to do is use decorative napkins to create a neat sort of mosaic frosted glass look. It’s really neat! This is something I learned how to do about…wow, 12 years ago. Hopefully you’ll all enjoy it and want to try to create a masterpiece of your own! :)

               What You’ll Need:

               - A Clear Glass Vase (not too textured or with too many crevices)
               - Decorative Napkins (nothing with plaid, stripes, or straight lines.
Choose something with a design that can be torn out in sections)
               - School Glue or Craft Glue (preferably clear but if it dries clear it'll do if, like me,
that’s all you can find and it needs to be able to mix with water)
               - 2 Paintbrushes; 1 smaller round brush and 1 flat approx.
3/4 inch wide
               - Gold Colored Accent Paint (not acrylic. Try and enamel or gold leaf paint)
               - Glossy
Clear Coat & Protectant Spray
               - Small Dish or Container (for glue)
               - Some Water
               - Some Garbage Bags or Newspaper (to protect your work surface)

Sorry, I didn’t think to take pictures of the stuff I bought, but if you watch the video
you’ll see everything I bought and I also tell where I got each item.

And this is what we’re going to be making:

(nope, no painting skills needed...not today)

Here’s the video! Enjoy!

So, there you have it; a great tutorial showing you how to make your own beautiful frosted looking, decorative vase. I’m sure there’s someone out there who’ll be really impressed when you give this to them as a gift and tell them you made it just for them, or, of course, it could be just for yourself! :)

Like I said in my video, I really hope you guys liked this tutorial and that you feel it’s something you can, and want to, make yourself. If anyone does decide to try it, I really would love to see your results and how creative you got with this project. Just feel free to message me on my Facebook page and attach your photos. ;) Can’t wait!

Well, that’s it for this week guys! I hope you all have amazing, fun-filled, exciting weekends and eventful, productive weeks next week. I’ll be busy packing for both, so wish me luck and I'll see you all on my Facebook page and Twitter. Oh, also, don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel, if you haven’t already, it’s just one more way to make sure you’ll know when I’ve posted a new video!

Huge hugs!
~Samantha
