Orange Slice Garland

If you're looking for old fashioned Christmas decor ideas, orange slice garland is a great go-to! It's easy to make, very cost-effective, and, if stored properly, can last a long time. In this post I will show you how I made my DIY Christmas Orange Slice Garland, and definitely feel free to change and improvise your own orange slice garlands. Let's take a look...

To make orange slice garland you'll only need 4 things, plus the use of an oven.

THINGS YOU'LL NEED
- 4 Large Oranges (more if you want loner than 10/11 feet, or of you aren't using beads)
- Jute Twine (Or your preferred substitute)
- Wooden Beads (If you like)
- Skewer (or other "pokey" device)

As I said above, if you decide you don't want to use wooden beads, and just want to string oranges alone, then you will need more oranges to make the same length of garland. You can also substitute the wooden beads for fresh cranberries to add to the old fashioned dried fruit Christmas look. Just keep in mind that they will only last just the one season if you use cranberries. And, instead of wasting them, once Christmas is over, you can leave them out for the birds to munch on.

As an added benefit, as I mentioned above, orange slice garland can last year after year, so long as they are stored properly. I haven't yet decided how I will store mine, but I have read to store them in a paper bag, and some people have said plastic has worked for them. I will update you guys here on this post once I can report back my findings. Another thing to know is that if you do want to reuse your orange slice garland for a few years, the oranges will darken over time. So if you like the look of the brighter orange slices, rather than a darker, browny-orange, then you may want to just make new ones if you plan to hang orange slices again. I will also update this post after my orange slices have aged, to show you what to expect. Now, Let's look at the tutorial.

That's everything for this post, my friends! I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays of all kinds, and a very Happy New Year! Here's to 2021 bringing better things for this world!
