My Week In Review x2 -Four-

Sunday, April 19, 2015

Hey there! I hope you all had a great weekend! Wow things are really starting to look quite green outside! It’s crazy how fast it happens! The tree buds are just about to burst open – I give until sometime during this week and the trees will all be nice and green too! I didn’t have much to write about for last week’s My Week In Review so I decided to skip it to not bore you and do a double post this weekend; that’s why it’s My Week In Review x2.

My step-dad flew back on Tuesday to start his work season here. He lives back home in the East for about half the year when it gets cold and snowy, and then when it warms up he works here in the West for half the year. So he’s been here visiting with us since then until he gets his accommodations all set back up.

Things have been going pretty well. I’ve been really busy trying to improve certain areas of my blog site over the past couple of week so that’s why I haven’t gotten as many posts up as I wanted to, and why I didn’t get a video uploaded this week. The posts I did get done over these last 2 weeks were:

Again, I’d like to see this number of posts double over a 2 week period… I’m getting there. I’ve been writing this blog and building my YouTube channel  for over a year and a half now, but in terms of a blog, that is still relatively new, so there are still things I am learning and improving on and at.

I’ve been busy trying to make a lot of improvements in my site’s SEO. For those of you who may not be familiar with that term, it means Search Engine Optimization. So, basically, implementing strategies to get a better page ranking on search engines. There are a lot of things that I’ve been doing all along, but I’ve really decided to dive right into the more advanced areas. I guess I’ve not done more to this point because it isn’t always the most fun side of designing a website, and sometimes the work can take some time to show results. It’s really best to start doing your SEO from the very beginning of a site’s life. I guess I was just silly and thought that Blogger (blogspot) took care of a lot of the SEO… which it does, but there are ways to make it better. I’m really trying to grow The Creative Glow into a successful business!

Since Google announced that, as of April 21, a site’s mobile friendliness will affect your page ranking, I’ve been forced to make sure my blog is mobile friendly. But being forced, for me, isn’t such a bad thing because it was on my “to-do” list, but I’ve been putting it off. Previously when viewing my blog on a mobile device, it would just show my desktop version which made the links very small and the text too small since it was designed for viewing on a desktop computer. Now that The Creative Glow is mobile friendly, those things are fixed. I still have some customizing I want to do to it, but it looks decent and is now… well… mobile friendly!

I haven’t really had any huge leaps in any of my social media followers lately. They’re still increasing, but at a, what I would call, usual speed. I gained 19 new likes on facebook and only 2 more followers on Instagram over the past couple weeks. Ha Ha. Again, I’ll get there. It’s pretty common that more activity, whether it be on the blog, Instagram, facebook, etc., pulls in more likes and follows and more regular traffic. So I know what I have to do!

My freelance work is going pretty well. If you want to hear more about that check out my other My Week In Review posts from previous weeks. I even gained a new job. My step-dad (along with a friend) came up with an invention that he’s like a website to help promote, so I’ll be designing a website for him. I’ll share more details about that project along the way in these posts.

I don’t have anything to report on when it comes to my art but I plan on dedicating some time to art this very evening! I’ve been trying to get to starting a new painting but it keeps getting bumped, especially with the improvements I’ve been trying to make to this site, as I mentioned earlier on in the post. So I plan to have something to add to my Art Series this week or, at the very least, something to report in next week’s weekly review.

So, that’s it for my past 2 weeks. Anything fun and interesting happening in your life? Comment below! xo
