DIY Polymer Clay & Faux Gold Leaf Earrings

Wednesday, March 25, 2015

Hi, friends! WOW it’s been a rough last few days! I’ve been so sick… it’s real bad! I swear, if any of you seen me now, you’d probably scream! But I’ll be back to good as new soon…hopefully! I managed to get this video tutorial ready for you, though! I’m showing you how to make some of these earrings yourself! It’s quite easy and takes about 30 minutes of work in total, plus there is drying and baking time… but who counts that? You can go and do whatever else you want while they’re drying or baking! And don’t forget, you can make these whatever shape or color you’d like!

In the video I also show you an easy way to mimic gold leaf that costs much less. I would have spent the money on gold leaf because I’m sure I would use it on other projects in the future, but I didn’t want to discourage anyone from doing this project because of how much the gold leaf costs. In a package you really do get quite a bit and if you’re into making a lot of things yourself, you’d probably use it up somehow, but some of you may just want to make the one set of earrings (making more than one pair makes the costs more worth it) and won’t want to spend $16-$18 dollars on a package of 15 sheets of gold leaf, when all you’d need is a very small bit. So that forced me to find an alternative way of getting a similar look, but that would cost much less. Check out the supplies list below for everything you’ll need! Hopefully you guys have some of these things already!

SUPPLIES YOU'LL NEED
- 1 Package of FIMO (oven hardening clay) - $3.99 from Micheals (other brands might cost a little less)
- 1 Package of Flat Post Earrings - $4.99 from Michaels
- Mod Podge Gloss - $4.97 4oz bottle from Walmart ($8.97 for 8oz jar)
- Mod Podge Dimensional Magic - $5.97 from Walmart
- Small Paint Brush
- E6000 Industrial Strength Adhesive - $5.99 from Lowe’s (also at Walmart or Michaels, costs vary)
TO MAKE FAUX GOLD LEAF
(if you already have real Gold Leaf, you won’t need these items)
- Krylon Metallic Brilliant in GOLD - $4.97 from Walmart
- Piece if Aluminum Foil - $1 for a roll from the Dollar Store

So, that’s everything that you’ll need. As I said, I hope you’ll already have some of these things – the only thing I had to buy was the turquoise FIMO (I had a lot of other colors, not this one) and the earring posts. Alright, let’s get to the video!! :D

That’s it for this post! See ya this weekend for my second installment of My Week in Review (click here for the first one)!

Love Ya,
Sam ♡
