12 Rustic & Farmhouse Bench Inspirations

Friday, October 27, 2017

Today I have 12 fantastic Rustic Bench Inspirations, many of which are DIYs from other blogs/websites, that I've compiled in preparation for the newest project I am about to begin. I know--if you follow along here on the blog--I haven't posted my own coffee table tutorial that resulted from my last inspirations post, 10 Rustic Coffee Table Inspirations, but I am just about finished the coffee table, and want to get this bench project in before I begin all the wonderful Christmas tutorials I have planned for this year - it's just about that time! Yay! Now, let's take a look at some of the benches that are inspiring my own design...

I've been thinking about this bench project for a while now. Our puppy, Vada, loves to look out the window and she's just able to see out when she props her front paws up on the windowsill. I feel like this would be a great place to have a bench to add to the decor of the living room, as well as a great spot for Vada to rest and peer out as she likes! You can take a look at the space I'm designing for below.

I know that we want this bench to provide some small storage for us, so I know that I will design it to have storage in some way. These benches have some great ways of incorporating storage into a bench.

Besides the storage aspect of the design, I'm also thinking about what I want the benches legs to look like. Do I want to go very simple with straight, simple legs? Or do I want to have a bit more style to the legs? In the living room, with the bench in the spot I'm designing for, there isn't a real vantage point for viewing the bench from the side, so I'm leaning toward something a bit simple... at least for this bench in the living room. I have plans for future bench projects as well...

The final thing I am considering in this bench design is weather I want a cushioned, upholstered seat or I want to keep it bare to the wood. One of the things to keep in mind is that we already have a lot of wood furniture in our open floor plan living room/kitchen/dining area, so perhaps adding something upholstered would be nice. But I also think with it being a spot for Vada to use, keeping it unupholstered will be the best option for keeping it de-fuzzed... but I still haven't decided.

Well, there you have it, those are a lot of the designs that are inspiring what will be my own design. I've started doing some sketches and I think I've got it just about figured out. Perhaps these inspirations will help you decide what to do if you're looking for a bench in your own home. Since so many of these are DIYs you could choose to make one of them OR, what you'll hopefully do, is wait to see my design here on the blog, and you'll choose to follow my DIY Bench Project! Stay tuned for that!
